Washington, District of Columbia (DC), United States, 17th Jul 2026 – Renowned psychologist Dr. Patrick J. Barrett announces the release of his transformative new book, The Eternal Self: An Ancient Perspective on Psychology, Healing and Human Evolution, now available worldwide on Amazon. This groundbreaking work seamlessly bridges the gap between contemporary psychological practices and the ancient Sanskrit traditions of Vedic science, offering modern readers a reliable roadmap to lasting inner peace, mental clarity, and spiritual enlightenment.
Book Description
The Eternal Self explores personal growth, psychology, and self-mastery through the timeless wisdom of the ancient Vedic tradition. Drawing from the Sanskrit concept of Véda—knowledge rooted in pure consciousness—the book examines the relationship between human awareness, lasting happiness, and the deeper reality underlying all experience. Central to this perspective is the idea that consciousness is the silent foundation beneath thought and perception, serving as the enduring answer to humanity’s oldest question: “Who am I?”

Rather than presenting ancient Vedic teachings as outdated mythology, the book frames them as living knowledge with profound relevance for modern life. It explores how universal social institutions—such as medicine, education, and government—can be reimagined according to these principles of higher consciousness. Furthermore, The Eternal Self challenges conventional anthropology by suggesting that civilization originally emerged from an ancient, highly evolved state of awareness rather than primitive beginnings. Ultimately, it invites readers to discover a deeper spiritual heritage and a more enlightened future grounded in pure human awarenes
Why This Book Matters
At a time when anxiety, stress, and uncertainty affect millions worldwide, The Eternal Self provides a powerful alternative perspective rooted in one of humanity’s oldest knowledge traditions.
The Eternal Self matters because it:
- Bridges the gap between modern psychology and ancient Vedic wisdom.
- Presents consciousness as the foundation of mental health and personal development.
- Offers readers a deeper understanding of healing beyond symptom management.
- Reimagines societal institutions through the lens of higher awareness and human flourishing.
- Challenges conventional assumptions about human history and evolution.
- Inspires meaningful personal transformation through timeless spiritual principles.
What makes The Eternal Self especially relevant is its ability to connect ancient insights with contemporary concerns. Readers interested in psychology, spirituality, self-development, mindfulness, and human potential will find valuable guidance throughout its pages.
As a leading contribution to the Self-Help Spiritual category, The Eternal Self encourages individuals to move beyond limitation and rediscover the enduring source of wisdom and fulfillment that resides within.
Reexamining Human Evolution Through an Ancient Lens
One of the most thought-provoking aspects of The Eternal Self is its exploration of human evolution and civilization. Rather than accepting the common assumption that humanity emerged from increasingly primitive beginnings, Dr. Patrick J. Barrett revisits historical evidence through the perspective of Vedic literature.
The book introduces readers to the concept of a highly evolved Golden Age and explores the possibility that human civilization may have originated from a far more advanced state of consciousness than modern anthropology typically recognizes.
This fascinating discussion broadens the scope of The Eternal Self, transforming it from a traditional self-help book into a compelling examination of human history, identity, and destiny.
